Textbook: p. 39
GoalThis – that, these – those; making requests: “Can you show/give me ...?”.
New words
this · bu (yaqindagi)that · u (uzoqdagi)these · bularthose · ular
Explanation
For things that are near we use this (singular) and these (plural): this desk, these desks. For things that are far we use that (singular) and those (plural): that chair, those chairs. Examples: “Touch this book.” “Look at those flowers.” Request: “Can you pass me those markers, please?” — “These?” — “Yes, please.” Reply: “Here you are.” — “Thanks!” Remember: is goes with this/that, are goes with these/those: “These are my pens.”
Worked examples
This pencil is mine. That pencil on the far desk is Lola’s. These apples are sweet. Those apples on the tree are green.
— Can you give me that red folder, please? — This one on my desk? — No, that one on the shelf. — Here you are. — Thanks a lot.
Class activity
“Robot game”: a partner gives orders to the “robot” pupil: “Touch this chair! Touch those desks!” The robot does it.
