Explanation
Things in a classroom: a desk, a chair, a whiteboard, a window, a door, a shelf, a map, a flag, a poster. To say what exists we use There is (singular) and There are (plural): “There is a map on the wall.” “There are six desks.” Short form: There’s. Question: “Where is the cat?” Prepositions of place: on the wall, in the desk, under the chair, at the door. New sentence: “There are two windows in our classroom.”
Worked examples
There’s a whiteboard on the wall. There are twelve desks and twelve chairs. There’s a flag next to the door. My bag is under my chair.
— Where’s my pencil case? — It’s in your desk. — And where’s the cat poster? — It’s on the wall, near the window.
Class activity
“Classroom artist”: a pupil describes the classroom without looking (“There are ... windows”), the partner draws. Then they compare.
