Textbook: p. 15
GoalName workplaces and answer “Where do you work?”.
New words
hospital · kasalxonabank · bankcollege · kollejmuseum · muzey
Explanation
Workplaces: a school, a college, a hospital, a farm, a bank, a museum, a flower shop, a book shop. Question: “Where do you work?” Answer: “I work at the bank.” Short questions: “Are you a doctor?” — “Yes, I am.” / “No, I’m not. I’m a nurse.” We usually use at before a workplace (at school, at the hospital), but a farmer works on the farm. About others: “My aunt works at a museum.” Remember: with he/she, work → works.
Worked examples
— Where do you work, Mr Karimov? — I work at the college. I’m a maths teacher. — Are you a doctor, Mrs Saidova? — No, I’m not. I’m a nurse at the hospital.
My uncle works on a farm. My aunt works at a flower shop. Her shop is next to the bank.
Class activity
“Who works where?”: cards with jobs and workplaces. Pupils find their match: “I’m a farmer. I work on the farm”.
Practice
1
Ask where someone works.
Where do you work?
2
Where does a doctor work?
A doctor works at the hospital.
3
Give a short answer: “Are you a nurse?” (No, you are a doctor)
No, I’m not. I’m a doctor.
4
Why “My aunt works”, not “work”?
My aunt = she, so the verb takes -s.
