Explanation

In a postcard we say what we are doing now with the Present Continuous: “We’re staying with my aunt. Today we’re walking around the old town.” Question: “What are you doing?” Describing a town: “Khiva has many blue domes and tall minarets.” “The old walls are very high.” Weather: “The weather is warm and nice.” Ending: “See you next week. Love, Sam.” Around Uzbekistan: Bukhara – the Ark fortress, Samarkand – the Registan, Khiva – Ichan-Kala, Shakhrisabz – Ak-Saray Palace.

Worked examples
Dear Tom, I’m having a great time in Khiva. We’re walking along the old walls and taking photos. The weather is warm and sunny. The food is delicious. Love, Sam.
— What are you doing in Bukhara? — We’re visiting the Ark. — What’s the weather like? — It’s warm. We’re eating ice cream.
Class activity

“Write a postcard”: each pupil writes a four-sentence postcard from an imaginary trip (Samarkand, Khiva). Read it aloud.
