My favourite things
Textbook: p. 6
GoalTalk and ask about your favourite things with the word “favourite”.
New words
favourite · sevimlihobby · mashg‘ulotsubject · fanholiday · bayram
Explanation
We use the word favourite to talk about the things we like best. Pattern: “My favourite + noun + is + ...”: “My favourite colour is green.” Question: “What’s your favourite sport?” (What’s = What is). The answer repeats the same word: “My favourite sport is volleyball.” If the noun is plural, we use are instead of is: “My favourite colours are blue and white.” We talk about ourselves in the same way: “My name’s Dilnoza. I’m ten. My hobby is drawing.”
Worked examples
— What’s your favourite subject, Timur? — My favourite subject is maths. What about you? — My favourite subject is art. I like drawing pictures.
My name’s Dilnoza. My favourite animal is the cat. My favourite holiday is Navruz. My favourite month is May. My favourite colours are pink and white.
Class activity
“Two truths and a lie”: each pupil says 3 sentences (“My favourite ... is ...”), one of them false. The class finds the lie.

Why do we say “My favourite colours are red and white”, not “is”?
