When does the school start?
Textbook: p. 34
GoalSchool days in other countries; questions with does: “When does the school start?”.
New words
start · boshlanmoqfinish · tugamoqbig break · katta tanaffusuniform · forma
Explanation
Schools are different in other countries: in some countries lessons start very early and finish before lunch, in others pupils stay at school in the afternoon. With he, she, it and a single school the question starts with does and the verb does not change: “When does the school start?” — “It starts at eight o’clock.” (in the answer start → starts). Other questions: “Does your school have a garden?”, “Do they have a library?” — “Yes, they do. / No, they don’t.” Short answers with does: “Yes, it does. / No, it doesn’t.”
Worked examples
In my cousin’s school the lessons start at 8.30. There are five lessons. The big break is at half past ten. The school finishes at quarter past two. They wear a uniform.
— When does your school finish? — It finishes at one o’clock. — Does it have a canteen? — Yes, it does.
