Explanation

In spring baby animals appear on the farm: calf, lamb, kid, foal, chick, duckling, kitten, puppy. We tell a fairy tale in the past. Regular verbs: open → opened, play → played, ask → asked. Irregular: come → came, go → went, say → said, have → had. Negative: “He didn’t have friends.” Question: “Who came out of the egg?” Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Ugly Duckling” ends in spring: the ugly duckling becomes a beautiful white bird. Months: January – December.

Worked examples
In Andersen’s tale one little bird looked different from his brothers. The farm animals laughed at him. He spent a long, cold winter alone. In spring he looked into the lake and saw a beautiful swan – it was him!
Months in order: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.
