Explanation

Pets: a dove, a quail, a rabbit, a canary, a parrot, a goldfish, a tortoise, a hedgehog, a dog – a puppy, a cat – a kitten. Plural: rabbit → rabbits, tortoise → tortoises, canary → canaries (y → ies). Fish does not change: a fish – three fish. Saying what we have: “We have a rabbit and two canaries. We don’t have a dog or a hedgehog.” “Lola has a parrot. She doesn’t have a kitten.” After playing with an animal we wash our hands.

— Do you have a pet? — Yes, I do. I have a rabbit. — Does your friend have a pet? — No, she doesn’t, but she likes tortoises.
