How do you go to ... ?
Textbook: p. 16
GoalSay how you go to school and how far your home is from school.
New words
on foot · piyodaby bus · avtobusdakilometre · kilometrfar · uzoq
Explanation
We ask how someone goes to school: “How do you go to school?” Answer: “I go on foot” or “I go by bus / by car / by bike / by metro”. For walking we say on foot; for transport we say by + transport (no a/an). Distance: “Is your house far from school?” — “Yes, it’s about 3 kilometres.” / “No, it’s near.” Question “How far is it?” — “It’s about 500 metres.” We use the same phrases for work: “My dad goes to work by car.”
Worked examples
— How do you go to school, Aziza? — I go by bus. It’s about four kilometres. — And you, Botir? — I go on foot. My school is near my house.
My cousin Lola lives in a new flat in the city centre. Her school is near, about 300 metres, so she goes on foot.
Class activity
“Survey”: everyone asks “How do you go to school?” and records the results in a table (on foot, by bus, by car, by bike). Report the results.
