What’s your job?
Textbook: p. 14
GoalName jobs and ask and talk about parents’ jobs.
New words
doctor · shifokortaxi driver · taksi haydovchisifarmer · fermerengineer · muhandis
Explanation
Jobs: a teacher, a taxi driver, a doctor, an engineer, a mechanic, a farmer, a secretary, a businessman. We ask about a job: “What’s your father’s job?” Answer: “He’s a taxi driver.” About two or more people: “What do your parents do?” — “They’re teachers.” Before a job we use a/an (an engineer), but not in the plural (They’re teachers). Remember: businessman – businessmen, businesswoman – businesswomen.
Worked examples
— What’s your mother’s job, Nodira? — She’s a doctor. What’s your father’s job? — He’s an engineer. They work very hard.
My uncle is a farmer. My aunt is a secretary. My two cousins are mechanics. My grandad is a businessman.
Class activity
“Guess the job”: a pupil mimes a job (driver, doctor, teacher) and the class guesses: “Are you a doctor?”
