GoalReview Unit 1: a presentation (portfolio) about yourself, your family and a friend.
New words
presentation · taqdimotfriend · do‘stinterest · qiziqishcollecting · yig‘ish
Explanation

A portfolio is a set of pages about you. In a presentation we say: name and age (“My name’s ... I’m ...”), where we live (“I live in ...”), family (“I have a ... There are ... people in my family”), favourite things (“My favourite ... is ...”), hobby (“My hobby is collecting stamps”). For hobbies we use the -ing form: collecting, reading, drawing. When we talk about a friend, the verb takes -s with he/she: “She likes drawing.”

Worked examples
Hello! I’m Jasur. I’m 11 and I live in Navoi. There are five people in my family. My favourite sport is swimming. My hobby is collecting stamps from different countries.
This is my friend Malika. She’s 10. She lives in Bukhara. She likes drawing. Her favourite colour is orange.
Class activity

“Portfolio show”: each pupil prepares a five-sentence presentation and reads it to the class; others ask one question.

Practice
1
Say two sentences about yourself (name, age).
2
Talk about a hobby: reading.
3
Tell about a friend: Malika / draw.
4
Why “She likes”, not “She like”?
