Explanation
Jungle animals: giraffe, monkey, snake, gazelle, elephant, wolf, tiger, bear, black panther. Ability: “Tigers can run, swim and jump.” “Snakes can’t fly.” (can’t = cannot). A story in the past: to be – was/were; regular verbs -ed: “Once a little elephant lived near a big river. He was called Tembo. He wasn’t alone. He had many friends.” Negative: wasn’t, weren’t, didn’t live. Questions: “What was his name?” “Where did he live?”
Worked examples
Once a little elephant lived near a big river. He was called Tembo. His friends were a monkey and a gazelle. The monkey climbed trees all day. Tembo liked swimming in the river.
Giraffes can run fast and eat tree leaves. Monkeys can climb and jump. Snakes can swim but they can’t fly.
Class activity
“Who am I?”: a pupil in the role of an animal says “I can climb. I can jump. I live in the jungle” and the class guesses.
