The Red Book: sorting words by meaning
Textbook: Part 2, topic 11, pp. 56–71
GoalSort words in a text by meaning and learn about the Red Book.
New words
Red Book · Qizil kitobrare · noyobto protect · asramoqto disappear · yo‘qolmoq
Explanation
The Red Book lists animals and plants in danger of dying out. When we read a text, we ask questions about the words: Kim? Nima? — a name; Nima qildi? — an action; Qanday? — a feature; Nechta? — a number. This shows us each word’s job.
Worked examples
“Qizil kitob”. The Red Book is not an ordinary book. The names of animals and plants in danger of dying out are written in it. Uzbekistan has its own Red Book too. It mentions rare creatures and plants such as the brown bear, the snow leopard and some kinds of tulip. If we protect nature, they will not disappear. Children do not pick flowers or touch birds’ nests.
Noyob qo‘ng‘ir ayiq tog‘da yashaydi. (The rare brown bear lives in the mountains.) noyob, qo‘ng‘ir — features; ayiq — a thing’s name; yashaydi — action.
Class activity
“Nature guards”: groups sort words from the text: one writes names of animals and plants, another action words, a third feature words. Then they compare.
