Explanation
Words that name a person answer the question Kim? (Who?): Salim, o‘qituvchi (teacher), buvim (my grandmother). Words that name a thing answer Nima? (What?): qalam (pencil), daftar (notebook), tosh (stone). Names of animals and plants also answer Nima?: ayiq (bear), olma (apple), lola (tulip).
Worked examples
Kim? — Madina, o‘quvchi (pupil), dadam (my dad). Nima? — kitob (book), mushuk (cat), daraxt (tree).
Kim o‘qiydi? — Sardor. (Who reads? — Sardor.) Nima yotibdi? — kitob. (What is lying? — a book.)
Class activity
“Who or what?”: the teacher says a word. For Kim? children raise their hands; for Nima? they tap the desk. Then they check by asking the question.
