How new words are made

Textbook: Part 3, topic 13, pp. 6–21
GoalKnow that joining two words can make a new word.
New words
word formation · so‘z yasalishito make · yasamoqrose · atirgulice cream · muzqaymoq
Explanation

We can join two independent words to make a new word. For example, atir (perfume) and gul (flower) make atirgul (rose). Muz (ice) and qaymoq (cream) make muzqaymoq (ice cream). The new word is written together as one word and has a new meaning. This is called word formation (so‘z yasalishi).

Worked examples
atir + gul = atirgul (rose); muz + qaymoq = muzqaymoq (ice cream)
tuya (camel) + qush (bird) = tuyaqush (ostrich); qirq (forty) + oyoq (leg) = qirqoyoq (centipede)
Class activity

“Word building”: two children each hold a word card (tosh, baqa). Standing side by side they make a new word: toshbaqa (turtle). Other pairs do the same.
