Explanation
Names of cities and villages are written with a capital letter: Toshkent, Samarqand, Buxoro, Xiva. The words shahar and qishloq themselves are written with a small letter. The same with viloyat (region): Samarqand viloyati.
Worked examples
Toshkent is the capital of Uzbekistan. Buxoro is an ancient city.
Wrong: samarqand shahri. Right: Samarqand shahri (the city of Samarkand).
Class activity
“Map journey”: the teacher points to a city on the map and children write its name with a capital letter. Then they also write the name of their own village or neighbourhood.
