Explanation
Words showing the number of people or things answer Nechta? (How many?) and Qancha? (How much?). For things we can count we ask Nechta?: uchta olma (three apples), beshta qalam (five pencils). For things we measure we ask Qancha?: bir qop un (a sack of flour), ikki litr sut (two litres of milk), bir stakan suv (a glass of water).
Worked examples
Nechta nok? — O‘nta nok. (How many pears? — Ten pears.) Nechta o‘quvchi? — Yigirmata o‘quvchi. (How many pupils? — Twenty pupils.)
Qancha un? — Bir qop un. (How much flour? — A sack of flour.) Qancha suv? — Ikki stakan suv. (How much water? — Two glasses of water.)
Class activity
“Shop game”: children play customer and seller. The customer asks “Nechta olma?” or “Qancha un?” and the seller answers with number words.
