The core of a sentence

Textbook: Part 4, topic 22, pp. 17–28
GoalFind the core of a sentence: who or what it is about and what is said about it.
New words
core · asosthe core of a sentence · gapning asosiquestion · so‘roqto underline · tagiga chizmoq
Explanation

The words that tell who or what the sentence is about and what is said about them are the core of the sentence. For example, in “Qushlar uchdi.” (The birds flew.), qushlar (Kim? Nima?) and uchdi (Nima qildi?) are the core. There is no sentence without a core. If we remove other words but the core stays, the thought is still there.

Worked examples
Baland daraxtlar bog‘da o‘sadi. (Tall trees grow in the garden.) Core: daraxtlar o‘sadi.
Yosh bog‘bon gullarni sug‘ordi. (The young gardener watered the flowers.) Core: bog‘bon sug‘ordi.
Class activity

“Shorten the sentence”: the teacher writes a long sentence. Children delete extra words one by one until only the core is left and the thought is still clear.
