The meaning of a word

Textbook: Part 2, topic 12, pp. 72–87
GoalUnderstand that every word has its own meaning and what meaning is.
New words
meaning · ma’noimagination, picture in the mind · tasavvurwaste · isrofto save, to use sparingly · tejamoq
Explanation

When we hear a word, information about it appears in our mind. That information is the word’s meaning. For example, if we say daftar (notebook), we think of a school tool made of paper with many pages. There is no word without a meaning. If we do not understand a word, we ask adults or find it in a dictionary.

Worked examples
Isrof means using more of something than needed. Suvni isrof qilmaymiz. (We do not waste water.)
Tejamoq means to use little, to save. Tabiiy boyliklarni tejaymiz. (We save natural resources.)
Class activity

“What is it?”: one child explains a word’s meaning without saying it (non: warm, soft, stays on the table cloth). The others guess the word.

Practice
1
