Explanation

Indefinite pronouns name a person, thing, quality or amount that even the speaker does not know exactly. They are formed from an interrogative pronoun in two ways: alla- is added in front, or -dir is added at the end: kim — allakim, kimdir (someone); qanday — allaqanday, qandaydir (some kind of); qaysi — allaqaysi, qaysidir (some one of them); qancha — allaqancha, qanchadir (some amount). Both affixes are written together with the word as one. From the word “narsa” an indefinite pronoun is formed only with alla-: allanarsa (something). Besides, the word “bir” together with nouns like kishi, narsa gives an indefinite meaning: bir kishi (a certain person), bir narsa (something), and the word “birov” is used in place of “kimdir”.

Worked examples
Eshik oldida kimdir turibdi (Someone is standing at the door). — kim + -dir; an unseen, unspecified person.
Allaqayerdan qo‘shiq ovozi eshitildi (A song was heard from somewhere). — alla- + qayer + dan.
