Explanation

A postposition determines which case the word before it must be in. With a word in the nominative (no suffix) come bilan, kabi, singari, uchun, sari, sayin, bo‘ylab: ukam bilan (with my brother), shamol kabi (like the wind). After a word in the dative (-ga) stand ko‘ra, qaramay, yarasha, asosan, doir, muvofiq: jadvalga ko‘ra (according to the timetable), sovuqqa qaramay (in spite of the cold). “Tomon” is used with a word in either the nominative or the dative. After a word in the ablative (-dan) come keyin, oldin, avval, buyon, boshlab, tashqari, boshqa: tanaffusdan keyin (after the break). Functional postpositions like old, ost, ust are linked to a word in the genitive, but -ning is often dropped: daraxtning ostida — daraxt ostida (under the tree).

Worked examples
Sinfdoshim bilan (with my classmate) — nominative; jadvalga ko‘ra (according to the timetable) — dative.
Maktabdan keyin — ablative; uyning oldida — genitive (old + possessive + -da).
