Interrogative pronouns
Textbook: pp. 28–29
GoalKnow the meaning kinds and use of interrogative pronouns.
Interrogative pronouns express a question asked in order to find something out. They ask about a person, a thing, a quality, a quantity, a reason, a place or a time. Kim? asks about a person, nima? about a thing or event, qanday? qanaqa? qaysi? about a quality, qancha? necha? about quantity, nega? nima uchun? about reason and purpose, qayer? about place, qachon? about time. A sentence containing such a pronoun is a question sentence: it is said with a rising tone and ends with “?” in writing: Bu suratni kim chizgan? (Who drew this picture?) In the answer, an exact word takes the place of the interrogative pronoun: Kim keldi? — Karim keldi.
Worked examples
Nega kechikding? asks the reason. Sinfda nechta o‘quvchi bor? asks the quantity.
Qachon boramiz? asks time; Qayerga boramiz? asks place.
