Textbook: p. 13

New words
numeral · soncardinal number · sanoq sonordinal number · tartib sonadverb · ravish
Explanation

A numeral shows the quantity or the order of an object. A cardinal number answers nechta?, necha? (how many?): besh (five), yigirma (twenty); an ordinal number answers nechanchi? (which in order?): beshinchi (fifth) and is formed with -inchi or -nchi. By structure numerals are simple (ming, thousand), compound (yigirma uch, twenty-three) and paired (ikki-uch, two or three). There are also the meanings of counting items, approximation, collective and distributive: beshta (five pieces), o‘ntacha (about ten), beshovlon (all five), ikkitadan (two each). An adverb shows the quality of an action and answers qanday? (how?), qachon? (when?), qayerda? (where?). By meaning, adverbs are of manner (tez, quickly), time (hozir, now), place (yuqorida, above), degree (juda, very) and other kinds; they are formed with suffixes such as -cha, -lab, -ona.

Worked examples
Yettinchi sinf (the seventh grade) has an ordinal number; yetti o‘quvchi (seven pupils) has a cardinal number.
Kunlab (for days), o‘zbekcha (in Uzbek), mardona (bravely) are adverbs formed with -lab, -cha, -ona.
