Dividing and writing words with the tutuq belgisi

Textbook: Part 2, topic 7, pp. 4–19
GoalDivide words with the tutuq belgisi into syllables and write them correctly.
New words
promise · va’daholiday · ta’tilblessing · ne’matsyllable · bo‘g‘in
Explanation

When we divide into syllables, the tutuq belgisi stays with the previous syllable: va’-da, sa’-va, mash’-al, san’-at. If we leave it out, the meaning changes: she’r — sher, sur’at (speed) — surat (picture), and ma’no becomes “mano”, which is not a word. So we write it carefully.

Worked examples
Ra’-no, ta’-til (holiday), ne’-mat (blessing), qat’-iy (firm)
Sur’at tez, surat chiroyli. (The speed is fast, the picture is beautiful.)
