Explanation

There are two kinds of speech. In spoken speech a person gets their thought across by talking: a conversation, a phone call, giving an answer. In written speech a person does it by writing: a letter, written work, a notice. We hear spoken speech and read written speech.

Worked examples
Spoken: answering during the lesson. Written: writing in a notebook during the lesson.
