Working with key terms
A term is a word or combination that names a concept of a science precisely. It is convenient to sort the syntactic terms studied this year into three groups. The first is sentence parts: subject, predicate (verbal and nominal; simple and compound), hol, object, attribute and the word it modifies. The second is elements that enter no grammatical connection with sentence parts: parenthetical elements and addresses. The third is terms about sentence types and structure: naming sentence, word-sentence, unextended and extended sentence, complete and incomplete sentence, homogeneous part, generalising word, set-off part, sentence stress. Kinds of subordinate connection in word combinations: juxtaposition (bitishuv: without suffixes, by word order and intonation: qizil gul), agreement (moslashuv: via genitive and possessive suffixes: do‘stimning uyi), government (boshqaruv: the head word requires a certain case of the dependent: kitobni o‘qimoq). Knowing a term means being able to state its definition in your own words and give an example.
