Explanation

The hol (adverbial modifier) is a secondary part attached to the predicate that shows where, when, how, for what reason, for what purpose or to what degree an action is done. By its question and meaning six kinds are distinguished: hol of place (where? where to? where from?), of time (when?), of manner (how?), of degree-quantity (how much? to what degree?), of cause (why? for what reason?) and of purpose (what for? for what aim?). A hol is often expressed by an adverb, by a noun or pronoun with a case suffix or postposition, and also by an adjective, numeral, imitative word or verb forms such as the adverbial participle. A hol of one word is simple; one expressed by a combination of several words is compound.

Worked examples
Place: “Bolalar hovlida o‘ynadi.” Time: “Ular kechqurun qaytdi.” Manner: “Qush yengil uchdi.”
Cause: “Yomg‘ir sababli ketmadik.” Purpose: “Kitob olish uchun kutubxonaga bordim.” Degree: “U juda charchadi.” Compound hol: “Tong otmasdan oldin turdim.”
