Explanation
In the final lesson the year is summed up: pupils can name the topic they found most interesting, the places where they made the most errors and the new words they learned. To not forget the language during the summer holiday the following tasks are recommended: 1) read at least one literary work or fable a week and write a three-sentence opinion; 2) write 2–3 new words a day in the vocabulary notebook; 3) keep a diary using sentences with homogeneous and set-off parts and addresses; 4) write a letter or greeting to relatives with polite forms of address (hurmatli, aziz, muhtaram); 5) review the error list collected during the year to repeat the rules. Rest during the holiday is important too: let reading be one form of rest.
Worked examples
Weekly plan: Monday — read a fable; Wednesday — 10 new words; Friday — diary entry.
Diary sample: “Aziz kundalik! Bugun qishloqda, ya’ni bobomnikida, kitob o‘qidim. Olma, nok, uzum — hammasini tatib ko‘rdik.”
Class activity
Year summary: each pupil writes five sentences “In Uzbek language class I learned…” and reads them to the class.
Practice
1
What three things will you do to keep your language knowledge in the summer?
E.g. reading, writing new words in the notebook, keeping a diary.
2
Analyze one sentence from the diary.
The answer depends on the pupil’s sentence: subject, predicate, secondary parts, kiritma or undalma.
3
Which errors were most frequent in your work? How will you correct them?
Depends on the pupil: error type and a correction plan (spelling dictionary, rule review).
4
Why does independent reading help to keep the language?
Because we see new words and sentence structures and our speech grows richer.
