Explanation
A fairy tale often has a happy end. We connect the ending with “From that time on …”: “From that time on the mosquito could only say ‘bzzz’.” A title gives the main idea: “The Fox and the Moon”. Opinions: “I agree.”, “I disagree.”, “I think fairy tales are interesting because they teach us clever things.” Famous tales: Thumbelina and The Snow Queen are by the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen; Mowgli in The Jungle Book is a character by Rudyard Kipling; Goldilocks and the Three Bears is an English folk tale. Fairy tales teach children about kindness, courage and cleverness.
Worked examples
“A happy end”. The little girl lost her way in the forest, but a friendly deer helped her. Together they found a path to her village. Her mother was waiting at the gate and hugged her. From that time on the girl never went into the forest alone, and every autumn she brought apples to the deer. The title of the story is “The Deer and the Girl”.
— Fairy tales are boring. — I disagree. They teach us many clever things. — I agree that some are too long.
Class activity
“Agree or disagree”: the teacher says an opinion (“All fairy tales have a happy end.”); pupils raise “I agree”/“I disagree” cards and give a reason.
