Explanation

The USA is a very big country: its area is about 9.8 million sq km and its population is about 340 million. The capital is Washington, D.C., where the President’s home, the White House, is. To the east is the Atlantic Ocean and to the west is the Pacific Ocean. Canada is to the north and Mexico is to the south. The longest rivers are the Mississippi (about 3,700 km) and the Colorado (about 2,330 km). In the north are the Great Lakes and in the west are the Rocky Mountains, with peaks above 4,000 m. Many nationalities live in the country. Advertisements use commands: “Visit Washington!” “Don’t think long!” Big numbers: 9,800,000 – nine million eight hundred thousand; 340,000,000 – three hundred and forty million.
