Explanation

Animals help people in many ways: guide dogs lead blind people, police dogs help the police, rescue dogs find people in the mountains or after an earthquake, and horses, cows and dogs help farmers. Present Simple: “Dogs help people who cannot see.” People help animals too: in Britain there are special hospitals for wild animals, and many families put a bird table (a high table with food for birds) in the garden, so birds can eat from it in winter. The table should be high because cats can catch birds. Advice: “We should put food out for birds in winter.” “We can plant trees.” Question: “Do you have any animals? Do they work?”

Worked examples
“Helpers with four legs”. Dogs are very good helpers. A guide dog helps a blind person cross the street. A rescue dog finds people in the mountains. On a farm, a sheepdog keeps the sheep together. We can help animals too. In winter we can put a bird table in the garden and put out seeds. We should keep it high because cats climb well.
— What jobs can dogs do? — Dogs help people who cannot see. — They find people after earthquakes.
Class activity
