Explanation

We use the Past Simple to talk about yesterday. Statements: “I watched TV. I had a shower. I bought a book. I woke up late. I ate meat. I drank juice. I took the rubbish out.” Questions use did: “Did you watch TV yesterday?” — “Yes, I did.” / “No, I didn’t.” After did the verb is in the base form: Did you watch (not watched). Negative: “I didn’t play computer games.” Wh-questions: “What did you do yesterday?” — “We went to the zoo.” Time words: yesterday, last night, last week, two days ago.

Worked examples
“Yesterday”. Yesterday I woke up late because it was Sunday. I had breakfast and then I helped my father in the garden. In the afternoon I didn’t play computer games; I read a book. In the evening we watched a film and ate palov. I went to bed at ten.
— What did you do yesterday? — We went to the zoo. — Did you see the lions? — Yes, we did.
Class activity

“Miming”: a pupil mimes something he or she did yesterday; the class asks “Did you play football?” and gets “Yes, I did / No, I didn’t.”
