GoalName home appliances and say what they are for.
New words
toaster · tost mashinasidishwasher · idish yuvish mashinasiwashing machine · kir yuvish mashinasivacuum cleaner · changyutgich
Explanation
Electrical appliances: a toaster, a dishwasher, a washing machine, a vacuum cleaner, a fridge, a TV. We say what they do in the Present Simple: “A washing machine washes clothes.” For purpose use for + verb-ing: “A toaster is for making toast.” After for the verb takes -ing (a gerund); we do not say “for make”. To ask what people have: “Do you have a dishwasher?” — “Yes, I do.” / “No, I don’t.” About rooms: “There are five rooms in our flat.”
Worked examples
“A letter from Tashkent”. Dear Tom, thank you for the photo of your house. We live in a flat in Tashkent. It has four rooms: a living room and three bedrooms, and also a kitchen and a bathroom. My mother’s favourite room is the kitchen because we have a new dishwasher there. There is a big TV in the living room and we like watching films together. Please write again soon. Aziz
A vacuum cleaner is for cleaning carpets. A washing machine is for washing clothes.
Class activity
“Kim’s Game”: show appliance pictures for 30 seconds, hide them, and pupils write as many as they remember. Practise “Do you have a toaster?” “Yes, I do.”
