Explanation

A rain forest is a forest with tall trees where it rains a lot and the climate is hot and wet. Rain forests are near the Equator: the Amazon basin (Brazil), the Congo basin (Africa), Indonesia and Malaysia. Trees give us clean air and oxygen and are homes for many animals and birds. But people cut down trees for farms, houses, wood and paper, and the area of rain forest is going down. “People cut down trees for farms, houses and paper.” How to help: “We can recycle paper.” “Use both sides of paper.” “Plant trees.” “Don’t waste paper.” Paper comes from trees, so saving paper means saving trees.

Worked examples
“Save our rain forests!”. Rain forests are home to millions of plants and animals. Trees give us oxygen and clean air. But people cut down trees for farms, wood and paper, and every year the forests get smaller. We can help! Use both sides of paper, recycle old paper and plant trees. Every small action helps.
— Where are the rain forests? — Near the Equator. — What is the climate like there? — Hot and wet.
