What do you have for a picnic?
Textbook: p. 45
GoalTalk about picnics with the Present Simple and adverbs of frequency.
New words
picnic · dala sayri, piknikknife · pichoqfork · sanchqispoon · qoshiq
Explanation
Habits and repeated actions use the Present Simple: “We usually take plates, forks and spoons.” “Sometimes we cook sausages.” Adverbs of frequency: always, usually, often, sometimes, never. They go before the main verb: “We often go for a picnic.” After be: “It is usually hot.” Picnic things: a knife, a fork, a spoon, a plate, a glass. The plural of knife is knives (-fe → -ves). Comparison: in England people often have picnics in a park; in Uzbekistan they often go to a river or the mountains.
Worked examples
“Picnic day”. On Saturdays we usually go for a picnic by the river. We always take bread, fruit and some water. Dad often cooks sausages, and Mum brings a knife to cut the watermelon. We never forget plates, forks and spoons. After lunch we play badminton and rest in the shade.
In England families often have a picnic in a park, but in Uzbekistan we like going to a river or to the mountains.
Class activity
“Picnic table”: groups fill in two columns (“in England” and “in Uzbekistan”): place, food, games. Then compare.
