What’s next to ... ?
Textbook: p. 82
GoalAsk and describe places with “What’s next to …?”; plan a town.
New words
next to · yonidabetween · orasidain front of · oldidabehind · orqasida
Explanation
Prepositions of place: next to, between, in front of, behind, opposite, near, on the left, on the right. Question: “What’s next to the bus stop?” — “The bank.” “Where’s the library?” — “It’s opposite the café.” On a town plan: bank, market, bakery, bookshop, hospital, library, restaurant, office, school. Suggestions: “I think the school should be next to the park. We can rest after classes.” Agreeing and disagreeing: “That’s a great idea!” “Oh no. The market is noisy.” Longest-sentence game: “The girl is standing next to her house.” → “The beautiful girl is standing next to her new house.” (add words to make it longer).
Worked examples
“Our town plan”. The bank is next to the bus stop. The library is opposite the café, and the bookshop is between the café and the market. The hospital is behind the park. I think the school should be next to the park because children can play there after lessons. But the market is noisy, so it shouldn’t be near the school.
— What’s next to the bakery? — The bookshop. — Where’s the library? — It’s opposite the café.
