Working with sprites

Textbook: pp. 91–93
GoalAdd sprites and backdrops to the stage, change a sprite’s name, size, direction and position, delete unneeded sprites and save the project.
New words
backdrop: the picture behind the sprites · fon (Backdrop)sprite properties: name, show, size, direction, x and y · sprayt xususiyatlarilibrary: ready-made sprites, backdrops and sounds · kutubxonasaving the project to your computer or account · loyihani saqlash
Explanation

You can choose a sprite and a backdrop from the program’s library: hover over the “Choose a Sprite” button in the sprites pane and the options appear: pick from the library, paint your own, upload from the computer, or a random sprite (Surprise). “Choose a Backdrop” sets the stage background in the same way. You can drag a sprite anywhere on the stage with the mouse. The sprites pane shows the chosen sprite’s properties: name (Sprite), visibility (Show), size (Size), direction (Direction) and position (x, y). To remove an unneeded sprite press the delete button next to it. To save the project choose “Save to your computer” from the File menu or, if you are signed in, it is saved online. Give the file a meaningful name, for example zoo.sb3. Library sprites can be used freely, but when you upload other pictures from the internet, think of copyright.

Worked examples
“Zoo”: backdrop – a meadow; sprite – an animal. We shrink the animal’s size from 100 to 60, place it at x = –120, y = –50 and name it “Lion”.
We do not need the default cat: right-click it and choose delete (or press the button at its corner). Now only the new character remains in the sprites pane.
Class activity

“My stage”: each pupil chooses two sprites and a backdrop, changes their position and size, names them and saves. A partner looks at the stage and finds the sprite names.

Practice
1
Give four ways to add a sprite.
2
Which sprite properties can you change?
3
A sprite is at (x = –50, y = 30). Move it 100 to the right: what is x?
4
Why is it useful to save a project early with a meaningful name?
