Additional devices of the computer

Besides the main devices, a computer can have many additional (external, peripheral) devices. It works without them, but with them it can do much more. By their job they fall into three groups: input devices (scanner, microphone, webcam), output devices (printer, plotter, projector, speakers, headphones) and devices that both receive and send information (modem and Wi-Fi router). A printer puts text or a picture from the computer’s memory on paper; there are inkjet, laser and dot-matrix printers, and a multifunction device combines a printer, scanner and copier. A scanner works the other way: it brings text or a picture from paper into the computer. A plotter or wide-format printer prints big drawings and posters, and a 3D printer makes solid objects. Keep headphones at a moderate volume, because loud sound harms hearing.
