Explanation
In this practical lesson we try out what we have learned. For working with files we use File Explorer, which shows disks, folders and files. To make a new folder, right-click an empty spot, choose New → Folder, type the name and press Enter. After writing text in Notepad, choose File → Save As, pick the folder and file name; the .txt extension is added automatically. To copy a file select it, press Ctrl+C, then Ctrl+V in another folder; to rename it use right-click → Rename. On a school computer create files only where your teacher shows you, and do not change other things.
Worked examples
Task: create “Trip.txt” in a folder “Diary”. 1) Create the folder and name it. 2) Open it, right-click → New → Text document. 3) Write about a trip. 4) File → Save.
Create a folder “Week” with “Monday”, “Tuesday” and “Wednesday” inside. In “Monday” create lesson.txt. The path (on disk D): D:\Week\Monday\lesson.txt.
Class activity
“Folder tree”: groups draw a folder tree (disk → folder → subfolder → file) on a big sheet and another group writes the path to a given file.
