Chants: Units 3 and 4

Textbook: p. 102 (chants)
GoalChants: jobs and comparing – the book’s chants on page 102 and our own.
New words
clap · qo‘l chapakrhyme · qofiyaline · qatortogether · birgalikda
Explanation

On page 102 the Unit 3 chant practices “What do you want to be?” and “Do you want to be …?”, and the Unit 4 chant practices “Are … -er than …?”. We make our own chant. Plan: 1) a question line; 2) an answer line; 3) a rhyming line; 4) clapping for rhythm. Two groups: one says the question, the other the answer. For example: “Is a kangaroo taller than a mouse? Yes, it is!”

Worked examples
What do you want to be? I want to be a vet! Do you want to be a pilot? No, I don’t, not yet!
Are bears bigger than cats? Yes, they are! Are cats bigger than bears? No, they aren’t! Who cares?
Class activity

“Chant contest”: each group prepares and performs its chant with rhythm. The class votes for the most fun and rhythmic one.

2
