Explanation

The value in this unit is to get involved in your community – for example, clean a playground or plant a tree. Two ways to make a suggestion: “How about + -ing?” and “Let’s + verb”. For example: “How about planting a tree?” “Let’s clean the yard.” To agree: “OK, good idea!” To say no and suggest something else: “No, let’s …”. Sounds: “ow” and “ou” are often read the same way: owl, down, cow; sound, house, cloud.

Worked examples
What should we do on Saturday? How about cleaning the park?
No, let’s plant flowers. OK, good idea!
Class activity

“Neighborhood plan”: groups suggest a good job for their neighborhood: “How about … ?” Another group answers “OK, good idea!” or “No, let’s …”. The class picks the best idea.
