Explanation

Plural question: “Are giraffes taller than penguins?” Short answers: “Yes, they are.” or “No, they aren’t.” For one thing: “Is a gorilla bigger than a panda?” – “Yes, it is.” / “No, it isn’t.” In the question the verb be comes first: Are / Is + subject + comparative + than. We can add information: “No, they aren’t. Penguins are shorter than giraffes.”

Class activity

“Question dominoes”: cards show two animals. Partners make a question (“Are snakes longer than frogs?”) and give the correct answer.
