Explanation

Yes/no question: “Do you have a headache?” – “Yes, I do.” / “No, I don’t.” About another person: “Does he have a cold?” – “Yes, he does.” / “No, he doesn’t.” Ability or permission: “Can you play tennis today?” – “Yes, I can.” / “No, I can’t. I have a toothache.” We give the reason with “I have …”. Important: when you are ill, rest instead of playing sport, and follow what the adults say. “Can’t” = “cannot”.

Worked examples
Do you have a toothache? No, I don’t. Can you play today? Yes, I can.
Does she have a temperature? Yes, she does. She can’t come to school.
Class activity

“Can you play today?”: each child draws an illness card. They answer “Can you play football today?” with “No, I can’t. I have a …”.
