Vowels and syllables in a word

Textbook: Part 2, topic 8, pp. 20–29
GoalKnow that a word has as many syllables as vowels and use this rule.
New words
syllable · bo‘g‘inpupil · o‘quvchito count · sanamoqrule · qoida
Explanation

Every syllable has one vowel. So a word has as many syllables as it has vowels. To count syllables it is enough to count the vowels. For example, uy (house) has 1 vowel — 1 syllable; o‘quvchi has 3 vowels — 3 syllables: o‘-quv-chi.

Worked examples
o‘qituvchi (teacher) — vowels: o‘, i, u, i = 4 syllables: o‘-qi-tuv-chi.
One-syllable words: uy (house), sinf (class), dars (lesson), tosh (stone), non (bread), she’r (poem).
Class activity

“Vowel counter”: children write a word, underline its vowels, count the lines to get the number of syllables, then divide the word to check.
