Kinds of syllables
Textbook: Part 2, topic 8, pp. 20–29
GoalKnow the kinds of syllables: made of a vowel alone, or of a vowel with consonants.
New words
vowel · unliconsonant · undoshclass · sinflesson · dars
Explanation
A syllable can be just one vowel: o-na, a-ka. A syllable can be one vowel and one consonant: bo-la, lo-la, ol-ma. A syllable can also be one vowel with several consonants: mak-tab, sinf, dars-lik. Every syllable always has a vowel.
Worked examples
Vowel only: o-ta, a-nor, u-zum (the first syllable).
Several consonants: sinf (class), dars (lesson), dars-lik (textbook).
Class activity
“Syllable houses”: three houses on the board — “vowel only”, “vowel + consonant”, “vowel + consonants”. Children put syllable cards in the right house (o, ma, ol, dars, sinf, a).
