Describing with feature words
Textbook: Part 4, topic 27, pp. 72–79
GoalDescribe fruits and vegetables using feature words.
New words
peel · po‘stjuicy · sershiravitamin · vitaminsour · nordon
Explanation
When we describe a fruit or vegetable we say its colour, shape, size, taste and benefit. For this we need feature words: qizil (red), yumaloq (round), shirin (sweet), nordon (sour), sershira (juicy), foydali (useful). To keep the description in order we say first its look, then its taste, and last its benefit.
Worked examples
“Pomegranate”. The pomegranate is an autumn fruit. Its peel is thick and red. Inside are many red, juicy seeds. It tastes sweet and sour. The pomegranate is rich in vitamins, so it is useful.
Feature words: qalin (thick), qizil (red), sershira (juicy), shirin-nordon (sweet-sour), foydali (useful).
Class activity
“Guess the fruit”: a child describes a fruit with feature words without naming it. The others guess which fruit it is.
