Statements, questions and exclamations
Textbook: Part 4, topic 21, pp. 4–16
GoalTell statements, questions and exclamations apart and put the right punctuation mark at the end.
New words
full stop · nuqtaquestion mark · so‘roq belgisiexclamation mark · undov belgisipunctuation mark · tinish belgisi
Explanation
If a sentence gives information, we put a full stop (.) at the end: Bahor keldi. (Spring has come.) If it asks something, we put a question mark (?): Bahor qachon keladi? (When does spring come?) Question sentences contain question words such as kim (who), nima (what), qayerda (where), qachon (when), nega (why), qanday (how, what kind). If a sentence is said with strong feeling, we put an exclamation mark (!): Qanday chiroyli bahor! (What a beautiful spring!)
Worked examples
Biz bog‘ga bordik. (We went to the garden.) Sen qayerga borasan? (Where are you going?) Qanday go‘zal manzara! (What a lovely view!)
Which words ask the question: “Kompyuter nima uchun kerak?” (Why is a computer needed?) — nima uchun (why).
Class activity
“Mark cards”: each child has three cards: full stop, question mark, exclamation mark. The teacher says a sentence and children hold up the matching mark.
