Describing with feature words
Textbook: Part 3, topic 19, pp. 70–77
GoalDescribe a thing with feature words and find feature words in a text.
New words
to describe · tasvirlamoqsoft · yumshoqshiny · yaltiroqlovable, pleasant · yoqimtoy
Explanation
Feature words help us describe things clearly and nicely. When we describe, we tell the colour, shape, size and taste. To find feature words in a text we ask “Qanday?” about each name. We can underline feature words with a wavy line.
Worked examples
“My favourite toy”. My favourite toy is a brown teddy bear. Its fur is soft and its eyes are shiny. It is round and lovable. It is small and light. I hug it before sleeping. My bear is always with me.
Feature words: jigarrang (brown), yumshoq (soft), yaltiroq (shiny), yumaloq (round), yoqimtoy (lovable), kichkina (small), yengil (light).
Class activity
“Mystery bag”: there is an object in the bag (apple, pencil, soft toy). A child touches it and describes it using only feature words; the others guess what it is.
