Words said differently from how they are written
Textbook: Part 1, topic 1, pp. 4–15
GoalFind words that are said differently from how they are written.
New words
how it is said · aytilishihow it is written · yozilishitree · daraxtfour · to‘rt
Explanation
For some words, the way we say them is different from the way we write them. For example, we write daraxt (tree) but say darax. In such words the number of sounds and letters is not equal. So we are careful when writing them and remember their spelling.
Worked examples
daraxt — written with 6 letters; said as darax, 5 sounds.
Samarqand — when we say it the last sound is hardly heard, but the letter d is still written.
Class activity
“I say — you write”: the teacher says a word the way it sounds (darax). Children write it correctly (daraxt) and find the difference between saying and writing.
