§ 20. Alisher Navoi, founder of the Uzbek literary language: place adverbials and clauses of place and manner
An adverbial of place answers «где? куда? откуда?»: «в городе, домой, из школы, рядом с парком, вдали, налево». A clause of place joins the main clause with «где, куда, откуда», and the main clause often has the demonstrative «там, туда, оттуда»: «Туда, куда указывал путеводитель, мы и пошли», «Мы остановились там, где начинался парк». The clause is set off by a comma. Alisher Navoi (1441–1501) was born in Herat and spent most of his life there and is considered the founder of the Uzbek literary language; he wrote the «Khamsa» (five poems) and, in 1499, «Muhokamat ul-lug‘atayn».
“Trip on the map”. Pairs plan a route on a map: «Мы едем туда, где…», «Мы приехали оттуда, где…».
